The arrival of springtime signifies the arrival of sunshine, green grass, and the sweet, sweet promise of summer—but it also means that swimsuit season is just around the corner. Is your body ready? Take advantage of the warming weather and take your workout outside! These three exercises turn your local park into a personal gym…and we don’t need to tell you about the benefits of a little fresh air.
Make like a monkey and climb a tree (or hit the monkey bars if trees are scarce). Locate a horizontal(ish) branch that’s high above your head (but not too high). Jump to grab it and use your arms to hoist yourself into a pull-up, lifting your head above the branch. Ease yourself back down to the ground and return to jump position. Do as many as you can in 60 seconds.
2. Bench Hops
Find a park bench and take a seat (but don’t get too comfortable). Sit on the edge of the bench, throw your hands in the air, and jump as high as you can. Return to a seated position and repeat for 60 seconds. Too simple? Try doing it with one leg only. When the 60 seconds are up, switch legs.
Grab a buddy and release your inner kid! Okay, this can be done solo, but two is better than one. Choose a destination in the distance and leapfrog your way there. Crouch down and spring forward from your legs. Once you land, plant your hands on the ground in front of you and kick your legs back into a plank position. Return to a crouch position and repeat until you hit your mark.
Before long, you’ll be tanned, toned, and ready for summer—it’s a walk in the park!
